Well, today was “Black Friday”. A day that traditionally is named that because most of the retail stores across the nation start turning a profit for the first time. I don’t know how true that is anymore, but none-the-less, it remains a day with an immense focus on materialism.
Don’t get me wrong, I like stuff as much as the next guy, but this isn’t exactly an obsession we hope to teach our children, so generally speaking we try to avoid it.
Instead, we spent the day at the Zoo, and what a day of learning it was!
We learned that the the average length of a giraffe’s tongue is 20 inches. And they can grab things with it! We saw it first hand.
I snapped the below picture, but none of us could remember what it was. We had to spend some time when we got back to figure it out. We searched online, eventually found a similar picture, and found its name. A great learning moment!
In case you are wondering, it is a Kori Bustard!
And this lion was just cool, so here is a picture for your pleasure …
What a great day! It was so great to see so many other families enjoying it with us today as well.
